How to block sites in Google Chrome

Do you find yourself visiting Facebook, Twitter, or other distracting websites when you really need to do something else? Block this site on Google Chrome. Other solutions will also allow you to block websites for children at home or from employees.

How to quickly block a site for yourself

We recommend Block Site for Chrome to quickly block websites. Install it and you can use the simple extension options to determine the list of blocked sites. You can even set up a redirect so that when you visit a blocked site, you are automatically pointed to the website that you want to use (for example, your workplace's website). Or turn it on on a schedule so you can watch whatever you want on Facebook - if it's not the clock you have to define.

It is not reliable. In fact, the opposite is true. You can quickly change site-blocking permissions to unblock sites. And while you can define password protection, anyone using your computer can open any other web browser to bypass the lock. This is a way to stay on track and add additional hassle before accessing the website - that's all. It is not a way to control children's access to websites at home or in an organization.

If you don't want an extension like Block Site to run on every website you visit, you can use Google Chrome extension permissions to restrict access. For example, if you just want to block Facebook, you can restrict Block SIte to work on facebook.com only.

Experienced computer geeks can use their system's hosts file to block websites, which allows you to define your own list of domains and their associated IP addresses. Please note that Google Chrome ignores your system's hosts file. This prevents malware from redirecting websites like Facebook to malicious locations, but it also prevents you from blocking websites like Facebook in the same way. This is why the extension is so useful.

How to block websites with parental controls

The Block Site extension works great - for you. But you cannot effectively use it to block access to websites for your children.

Many Wi-Fi routers have built-in website blocking features and this will perform much better than this Chrome extension. If your router has this feature, you can tell the router to block the website and no one on your Wi-Fi network can access it. Of course, people can still use VPNs or proxies to bypass the blacklist - nothing is foolproof.

You can also look into parental control software that runs on your own computer. In addition to third-party parental control software, your operating system contains some useful tools.

For example, Family Features in Windows 10 will let you block websites for a child's account. On Mac, Screen Time has been added to macOS Catalina, allowing you to restrict access to websites. On Chromebooks, you can use Family Link to control which websites your child can visit.

How to block a website in an organization
Organizations using Chrome Enterprise can use Chrome's URLBlacklist feature to block specific websites. This feature is intended for IT professionals who manage devices in an organization and will not help you manage Chrome at home. Consult Google Docs on Website Blocking for more information.

How to increase, decrease and change the font size in Google Chrome?

There are many reasons why you want to customize the display of your browser. This could be due to the visibility or readability of the content on a particular website. You may also have vision problems while reading the content. In this article, we will explain how to use the zoom features in Google Chrome so that you can customize your browser to your liking.

In the Windows version of Chrome, simply press the F11 key to view the browser in full-screen mode. Press F11 again to return to the normal window, or hover your cursor over the top of the browser and click the close button.

Unfortunately, in the Mac version of Chrome, you don't have a keyboard shortcut for full-screen viewing.

Fullscreen from the menu
You can also make the browser full screen from the menu.

Click on the button with three dots "Customize and manage Google Chrome."
Click the full-screen icon next to the Zoom option.

Zoom settings from the menu
If you want to set a specific zoom level, you can increase or decrease the percentage in the "Zoom" menu item. Chrome will instantly take you to the next level of zoom.

Scaling with the keyboard
Another option to control zoom in Chrome is to use keyboard shortcuts.

Press "Control" and "+" keys to zoom in and out
You can use the Control and - keys to zoom out and out.
If you want to reset the browser zoom to 100%, press the Control and 0 keys.
When you zoom in or out, Chrome will show you a lens icon at the right end of the search box. You can quickly click the icon and set the zoom level or restore the default view.

Settings Up Default Zoom Level
The problem with using keyboard shortcuts or menu preferences to zoom is that Chrome will only apply the changes to that tab and to the site you are viewing in that tab. When you open a new site in the same or a new tab, Chrome resets the zoom level and uses the browser-level settings. Therefore, if you want to view all web pages on an enlarged or reduced scale, you need to change the default page zoom settings in the browser.

Go to the URL "chrome: // settings" and find the "Appearance" section.
You can find the Page Scale option with a default level of 100%.
Click the drop-down list and select the desired zoom level.
Chrome allows you to set the zoom level from a minimum of 25% to a maximum of 500%.
Setting the page zoom level
Setting the page zoom level
Let's say you set the page zoom level to 150%. Now that all websites you open will have a 150% zoom mode available to show more and more. You will NOT see the lens icon in the address bar as these are the default settings you made. However, if you have site-specific zoom settings set earlier, Chrome will still remember and open the page at that specific zoom level. In this case, you will see a lens icon because the zoom level is different from the default settings. You can click the icon and click the Reset button again to set the default zoom level.

Changing the font size
In addition to page scaling settings, you can also increase or decrease the font size of the content. Click the drop-down menu next to Font Size and select the desired value. Chrome recommends leaving it as Medium, although you can make it small or large as you see fit.

Scale versus font size
Well, this is another confusion between scaling and font size.

Scaling
The zoom level will enlarge the entire browser and the content of the web page, and the images will enlarge when enlarged and shrink when reduced. Most websites go responsive when you zoom in when a menu item shrinks to a hamburger menu.
Below is how this website will look when configured.

Change language on Facebook

Facebook, like most social networks, has several interface languages, each of which is automatically activated when you visit a site from a specific country. Therefore, it may be necessary to change the language manually regardless of the default settings. We'll show you how to do this on the website and in the official mobile app.

 Change language on Facebook
Our instructions are suitable for switching any language, but the names of the required menu items may differ significantly from those presented. We will use English section titles. In general, if the language is unfamiliar to you, you should pay attention to the icons, since the elements in all cases have the same arrangement.

Option 1. Website
On the official Facebook site, you can change the language in two main ways: from the home page and through settings. The only difference between the methods is the arrangement of the elements. In addition, in the first case, the language will be much easier to change with minimal understanding of the default translation.

You can use this method on any social media page, but it's best to click on the Facebook logo in the upper left corner before doing so. Scroll down the page that opens and on the right side of the window find the block with languages. Select the desired language, for example, "Russian" or another suitable option.

Regardless of your choice, the change will need to be confirmed in a dialog box. To do this, click the "Change language" button.

If these options are not enough, in the same block, click on the "+" sign. In the window that appears, you can choose any interface language available on Facebook.

In the list on the left side of the page, click the Language section. To change the translation of the interface, on this page in the "Facebook Language" block, click the "Change" link.
Log in to change the language on Facebook in the settings

Select the language you want from the drop-down list and click the Save Changes button. In our example, "Russian" is selected.

After that, the page will be automatically refreshed, and the interface will be translated into the selected language.

Successful translation of the interface to Facebook in Settings

In the second block presented, you can additionally change the automatic translation of posts.
Change translation of Facebook messages in settings

To avoid misunderstanding the instructions, focus on screenshots with marked and numbered dots. This completes the procedure on the website.

Option 2: mobile app
Compared to the full-featured web version, the mobile application allows you to change the language in one way through a separate section with settings. At the same time, the parameters set from the smartphone are not backward compatible with the official website. For this reason, if you are using both platforms, you will still have to do the setup separately.

In the upper right corner of the screen, click on the main menu icon according to the screenshot.
Extending the main menu in the Facebook app

Scroll down to Settings & Privacy.
Go to page settings in the Facebook app

Expand this section and select Language.
Go to language settings in the Facebook app

You can select a specific language from the list, for example, "Russian". Or use the item "Device language" to automatically adapt the site translation to the language settings of the device.

The language selection process in the Facebook app

Regardless of the choice, the change procedure will begin further. Upon completion, the application will automatically restart and open with the already updated translation of the interface.

Successful language change on Facebook app

Due to the ability to select the language that best suits your device settings, you should also pay attention to the corresponding process for changing system settings on Android or iPhone. This will allow you to enable Russian or any other language without any problems, simply by changing it on your smartphone and restarting the application.

The real user will be sharing their daily activities or thoughts on Facebook, which may be random since we like different things. However, a fake profile usually shares what you want to promote.

If you look closely at the profile, you can tell if it is fake or real. Below are some points that you can take into account in order to identify a fake Facebook profile.

According to Facebook,  reading  -  if there are about 40-50 million accounts - is fake. This is too much! Here are 12 ways to spot  fake Facebook  counters  :

The most important rule: don't talk to strangers on the Internet. If you don’t know them or don’t recognize the name, do not accept the offer of friendship.
Nice photo (  fake Facebook accounts  often use attractive photos to convince people to make friends with the account)

The profile photo appears to have come from the Internet.
Photos are few (usually individual photos, not groups of people)
Biography information seems unreal

No posts on the Facebook page
Account conversations seem fake and fake

Account loves other accounts very much
Check if the account has friends (fake accounts won't have friends at all)
Use Google Images to check photos and your Google account name to see what appears
Don't be fooled by the people who guarantee the account. If there is a fake account, they can all be fake to make them look more legitimate.
Also, remember to base your decision on mutual friends. Remember that fake accounts can be linked not only to you but also to your friends.

If you are unsure of the account, a good way to find out a fake account is to send a message to your friend or account before accepting.

Search their Facebook name online and see what comes back
Speaking of Google, it's a good idea to quickly find the name that appears on your Facebook account.

Many people don't use their real names on their Facebook accounts, including people who don't use fake accounts. However, it can be helpful to check their names to see if they have other social media profiles. If the information attached to other social media profiles matches, it is likely that it is not a fake profile (and therefore can be safely added).

(Note: this may not work for you if the name is common, but for a more unusual Facebook name, you might end up with something interesting in the search results.)
